Edgewater College

COVID-19 Principal update Wednesday 18 August

Ata mārie

Please find below some additional information about the week ahead.  At Edgewater College, our first priority in any situation such as this is to ensure that all students are well and safe and able to access distance learning when and how works best for them and you as a family.

Please know we are here to help so please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s Mentor, their Dean, or myself as Principal if you need any more information or support. I know that there will be a very wide range of emotions about this sudden lockdown for students, parents and staff – if we keep a kindness first approach then I know we will get through these uncertain times as we have in the past.

Alert Level 4

Please see this link for additional Level 4 information https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/alert-level-4/#staying-at-home-%E2%80%94-what-it-means  Please note that all staff and students must work/learn from home and cannot go on to school grounds for any reason.

Distance Learning

As I mentioned last night distance learning will continue from tomorrow.  Teachers are working on updating the google sheet today so that tasks are available for all courses from tomorrow.  Please go to the google sheet: https://tinyurl.com/2021LearningAtHome to see the work that has been set.  This will include offline work for those of you that do not have access to a device.  At Alert Level 4 we are unable to arrange for device pickups but we are working with the Ministry of Education on this and should the lockdown continue past next Tuesday I am hopeful that we will be able to arrange this.

Your teachers will be available as per the usual school timetable during the times below:

  • 9.30 – 10.00 am – Session 1
  • 10.30 – 11.00 am – Session 2
  • 11.30 – 12.00 pm – Session 3

Afternoons are for you to support and help your whānau and complete independent learning and/or assessment tasks.

If students experience an issue with their school device during the learning from home period:

  • If there is a technical issue, contact [email protected] or 021 088 11086.
  • If damage does occur, report it as soon as possible to [email protected]
  • If the device is lost or stolen, report it as soon as possible to [email protected]. If requested also report its loss or theft to the police.

For additional support during this time please email:

  • Your Mentor teacher or Dean for general support
  • Your Subject teacher for learning support
  • One of our guidance and counselling team for specific wellbeing support
  • Our nurses for any health matters or health advice
