Kia Ora koutou and Welcome to Edgewater College

COMMUNITY MESSAGE - 4 February 2025

Kia ora koutou,

It was lovely to welcome our entire school community back onsite today.  We started the day with Mentor time and School Assemblies and have had classes occurring this afternoon.

School Lunches

As you will have seen in the media the nationwide supplier of lunches is failing to meet the expectations of school communities and even with us planning for considerable delays today our school lunches did not arrive at all.  My sincere apologies to all our students who were affected by this which is incredibly frustrating and I’m sure you will agree completely unacceptable.

To try and support students today we have given them a snack and fruit to see them through to when we were told the lunches would arrive, but unfortunately it worked out worse than that with them not being delivered at all.  We will continue to do this if it looks like there will be a considerable delay from the planned lunch/shared kai time.

In the meantime, it is suggested you have your child bring food with them to have if lunch is delayed, or in the case of today in which we do not receive any food. Obviously, we are as upset about the current provision as you are and are doing our best to ensure that it impacts students, staff and learning as little as possible.   I will keep you updated with more information as I can.

Rest of the week:

Wednesday – Will be a normal school day starting at 9 am.  Day ‘2’ on students’ timetables.

Thursday – Closed for Waitangi Day public holiday.

Friday – A normal school day starting at 9.30 am.  Day ‘3’ on students’ timetables.

Uniform updates

We do have one change to our uniform policy as determined by our Board of Trustees.

  • Students will be allowed to have one small plain nose stud.
  • Students will also be allowed small plain ear studs in their ears.
  • Please note no other facial piercings are allowed.
  • No rings / sleepers / hoops / dangle earrings are allowed as these pose potential safety risks in PE / Technology / Science.

Other uniform items for your attention please:

  • Shoes must be plain black.
  • Sandals must have a back strap and not be ‘slip on’.
  • Knitted vests are not part of our school uniform and must not be worn.  Please ensure your child does not cut the sleeves off their school jersey as this will mean it is no longer allowed to be worn.
  • Only the school beanie or bucket hat may be worn, no other hats or beanies.

If there is a reason why your child needs a pass for an incorrect uniform item on a particular day, please give them a note to take to the Dean’s area before school.

Thank you again for your support of our school - despite the disruptions with school lunches it has been a really positive start to the year and has been great to have our students back onsite and ready to learn.

Ngā mihi nui,

Louise Addison | Tumuaki
