Tumuaki update | Strike Action and rostering home this term

Kia ora koutou katoa

Please see some important updates below about the Term ahead.

Strike Action / Rostering home this term

We have received formal notification this morning that strike action for different year levels is planned over the next 6 weeks.   This means that unfortunately we will not be able to provide onsite learning for these year levels on the following days:

 Rostering Home T2

Whilst we are yet to receive formal notification at present, we are also aware of an all day strike for all year levels planned for the Auckland region on Thursday, 11 May.  We will advise you as soon as we receive notification, if it is to proceed.

Our apologies for the significant disruption we know that these days may cause you and your whānau.   Our hope is that the Ministry of Education will put an offer to our teaching staff that can be accepted as soon as possible so we can resume business as usual.  Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.

Teacher only day – Friday 5 May

Next year sees the introduction of new NCEA achievement standards at Level 1, alongside new Literacy and Numeracy tests.  These are significantly different to the current assessments and as such we want to ensure we have planned to ensure ongoing success for our rangatahi.

To support schools with their planning the MOE has allowed all secondary schools two NCEA teacher only days this year.  Whilst we appreciate the timing is not ideal the MOE only gives us a two week window in which to hold the first of these teacher only days.  This means we will be holding a Teacher only day on Friday 5 May in which no onsite classes will be held.   With the rostering home above this means no Year 11 students on Thursday and Friday, and no students at all on Friday this week.

Kāhui Ako role / Acting Principal

I am very privileged to let you know that I have recently been appointed the Lead Principal of our Kāhui Ako / Community of Schools.  The Pakuranga West Community of schools is a collaboration across the following schools to support our learners from early childhood to secondary school.

  • Anchorage Park Kindergarten
  • Riverhills Early Learning Centre
  • Anchorage Park School
  • Riverhills School
  • Riverina School
  • Pakuranga Intermediate
  • Edgewater College

In taking on this role I want to acknowledge the great work done by our outgoing Lead Principal Sarah Allen from Riverhills School.  Thank you Sarah!  I am very excited about the opportunities ahead.

This job means that for certain weeks of the school term our Deputy Principal Angela McCamish will be Acting Principal at Edgewater College.  Our Principal PA Sarah Scanlan is available to advise you of who best to contact in any given week if you would like to make contact with the Principal.

Ngā mihi
