Term Three

Learning from Home at Alert Level 4

Please find below some additional information about the week ahead.  At Edgewater College, our first priority in any situation such as this is to ensure that all students are well and safe and able to access distance learning when and how works best for them and you as a family.

Please know we are here to help so please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s Mentor, their Dean, or myself as Principal if you need any more information or support. For additional Level 4 information click here https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/alert-level-4/#staying-at-home-%E2%80%94-what-it-means. Please note that all staff and students must work/learn from home and cannot go on to school grounds for any reason.

Learning At Home

Please go to the google sheet: https://tinyurl.com/2021LearningAtHome to see the work that has been set.  This will include offline work for those of you that do not have access to a device.  At Alert Level 4 we are unable to arrange for device pickups but we are working with the Ministry of Education on this and should the lockdown continue past next Tuesday I am hopeful that we will be able to arrange this.

Your teachers will be available as per the usual school timetable during the times below:

  • 9.30 – 10.00 am – Session 1
  • 10.30 – 11.00 am – Session 2
  • 11.30 – 12.00 pm – Session 3

Afternoons are for you to support and help your whānau and complete independent learning and/or assessment tasks.

School Devices At Home
Update on 23 August - How to get a device

At present we are still advised not to proceed with contactless pickup of devices, but we want to be ready should this be allowed later this week.

In order for us to plan for this, we are asking all students who do not have access to a device for learning to please complete the following google form: https://forms.gle/6gA2t6hGxjFCGz8Q6

If you are unable to complete the form yourself then please call a friend with a device/internet access and ask them to complete it for you, or send the following information to either your Mentor or email [email protected]

  1. Full name of student
  2. Year Level
  3. Mentor Class
  4. Full lockdown address
  5. Best way to contact you (email address/phone number)
  6. Whether you would be able to come to the school for contactless pickup (yes/no)

If students experience an issue with their school device during the learning at home period please contact the following staff:

  • Technical issue: [email protected] or phone 021 088 11086
  • If damage occurs please report it as soon as possible to [email protected] or phone 021 088 11086
  • Or if the device is lost or stolen, please report it to [email protected]. And if requested also report its loss or theft to the police.
Communication with teachers

As a school, I have asked all teachers and support staff to send emails during contact hours and on weekdays only.  In keeping with our usual school policy, we will do our very best to respond to any message from students and/or parents within 24 hours. I’m sure you will appreciate that our staff are juggling working from home as well as managing the day-to-day life of their own bubbles and so we do need to keep this manageable for both staff and students.

Your Wellbeing

If you require additional support during this time please email the following staff:

  • Your Mentor teacher and or Dean for general support
  • Your subject teacher for learning support
  • One of our guidance and counselling team for specific wellbeing support
  • One of our Nurses for any health matters or health advice
